back to it

Internet has been down, along with phone and cable. Comcast being awesome, as usual.

The first night, we played scrabble and drank wine.

The second night, we watched a movie and went to Walgreens.

Tonight, it was kinda up, and I managed to set the account back up, then I set up a secure network and we all checked our Facebook pages.

I'm seriously tired. Like the kind of tired where your cheeks get all flushed. And I have a ton of emails to read.

not a lot of ppl left around

^ Glad I'm not the only one who gets that part of that song stuck in my head.

Spending time at Aunt Mary's new house gives me house-buying fever, bad. That is such a perfect little house. And THREE closets in the master bedroom is the icing on the cake. An entire closet for shoes. I know.

But, it will just have to wait.

Trying to make breakfast-type things for the week. I'm out of cereal and I'm not buying groceries until I get paid again. I'm not kidding about being broke until next payday, and I'm serious about getting that credit card paid off. The interest is freaking ridiculous. Credit cards are evil.

So anyway. Trying to think of things to eat that won't leave me hungry an hour later.

You know what else? Oatmeal does not keep me full. They say that oatmeal is like one of those foods that sticks with you, but not for me.

Time to go make some breakfast tacos and enjoy my Sunday.

one for the now and eleven for the later

First of all, GO NY!

Second, I did get around to purchasing a modest(er) swimsuit.

This totally flatters and gives great boob support-- but it's not cleavage city and it's still modest enough for family. And also when I wear it I don't have to worry about getting sunburned on my stomach. Bonus!

and I loved it so much, I got it in a non-tankini yellow.

Now all I need is for Chris to come home so someone can appreciate it. ;o)

I woke up with one of those allergy-nauseating migraines. So I cleaned out my air filter for the AC. It was nasty.

I got paid yesterday, paid bills this morning, and now I am broke for the next two weeks. BUT I'm getting into serious mode about paying off my credit card, so I can be poor for a couple months.

weary

I know why I'm so tired. It was a rough week. As I walked to my car after clocking out today, the only thought in my head was, "I made it."

And then I realized it was payday and there was cake waiting for me at home and my weariness got a little sunshine.

The best part is I can sleep as late as I want for the next two days.

Why am I so tired?

Ruffled Pillow- tutorial

I have been eyeing girly, frilly pillows for quite some time. I can imagine getting a great neutral slipcover for Chris' old futon...

 blue plaid. Hm.

and getting a few cute pillows. However, pillows are ridiculously expensive. It's a pillow, people. I'm not shelling out 30 bucks for a pillow.

I was inspired by this pillow that I saw at Pier 1. However, I didn't buy it because of the price, and also because the material was not very snuggle-able. I hate throw pillows that are so hard or scratchy that you can't even rest your head on them, or that make your cheek sweat if you use it. Or that you can't wash. Must be functional as well as pretty.

Psh, I can make my own! And I did. Sort of.

I made it out of an XL women's tshirt that I found at Walmart. Men's tshirts did not come in the color that I wanted, and it was the biggest I could find. And it was 5 bucks. Sweeeet.

Here's how you make it. (Please excuse my craptastic pictures. I think my camera has been dropped too many times.)

Trace a 12.5 x 8 inch rectangle with the longer edge on the bottom of the tshirt. This saves you from making an extra hem later. Cut it out, and trim off the side seam. You will have two pieces of fabric 12.5 x 8, which will form the envelope back of the pillow case.

Then, measure another rectangle, 6.5 x 12.5  inches. The 6.5 will be on the bottom, 12.5 on the side seam.

Don't trim off the side seam. Instead fold it out. You will have a square that will be the base for the ruffles.

Start cutting long strips of fabric using the rest of the t-shirt.

Make the ruffles by setting the longest stitch on your machine, and using the highest tension. As you sew down the middle of the strip, it will automatically create ruffles. It's so fun, I could make ruffles all day. Seriously.

Place a ruffle covering the seam in the middle of the base piece.

Pin ruffles next to each other until the whole pillow is covered. Sew them on using a regular stitch down the middle, right on top of the other stitch.

Once they are sewed on, sew on the back. With the right sides facing each other, pin each smaller piece of fabric in such a way that they overlap a few inches in the middle. (Place the edge with the original tshirt bottom hem towards the middle, and pin the raw edges.)

Sew around the edges, turn right-side out, and insert a pillow form. Tada!

I've been awake for a while now

Note to self: Don't watch Cheaters when you have a long-distance relationship and haven't had contact with your man in over a week. Also, don't switch to Saving Private Ryan, just in time to catch the opening scene. Soldier-y carnage hits just a little too close to home right now.

Have a small package to send to Grandma- album of wedding photos. Gorgeous, such a good memory.

Been rivaling Akhtar in my Motomail usuage, but I have yet to hear back about the success. If you'd like to send a letter, let me know and I'll give you the address. You don't have to have anything fabulous to write about; it's just nice to receive letters from home.

I love how gloriously quiet it is in the morning before all the kids get up. I also love having everyone home. The house is too empty when everyone's at school. I sound like a mom, haha.

Time to finish my coffee, clip some coupons from the Sunday paper, and get ready to go catch my Sunday matinee with Akhtar-- Bridesmaids!

Things that are awesome:

- A neighbor with a prolific tomato plant.

Like my new green kitchen rug in the top corner? The UH one finally got shredded in the wash. This one was $3 at Walmart, and the dots are raised.

- Not waking up until 1230 today. Sleeping in FTW. I might just go take a nap now, too.

- This estate sale find for 50 cents, perfect for storing my bobby pins.

- A clean shower. Don't ask me when the last time I cleaned it was. I don't know.

- The new issue of Good Housekeeping in the mailbox.

- The fact that I have a whole day of this tomorrow. Yay for weekends with no obligations!

awk-some

So I read this blog, the Daybook (She's so stinkin' cute), and she has this thing she does with Awkward and Awesome Thursdays. Well, today I kept thinking about it and here's my Monday edition:

Awkward:

-Singing "Get down tonight" in front of my coworker who totally gets me, while another coworker is right behind me witnessing the bad singing, complete with silly booty shakin.

-The first chapter of Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang. Jesus. I expected to like the book more than I did. I actually didn't like it very much. I honestly didn't think it was that funny. Maybe the first chapter threw me off.

-All the zits on my face. Makeup is a joke. Ok, hormones, time to balance out. You're embarrassing me.

-Wisdom tooth bothering-age.

-Deciding to crack my windows while I went for my 30-minute workout, and in that 30-minute window, for the first time in over a month it started to rain.

Awesome:

-Rain!

-Getting the first Monday of the month behind me. I think we did a record number of tests today. I was wiped out but still managed to want to exercise this afternoon. Wha..? I don't know, either.

-Perfectly ripe cantaloupe.

That's about it.
